Who do you betray on the way to a “thick skin”?⠀
You betray the you that wants to say stop, no more. ⠀
The you that wants to say “no”, not now. ⠀
The you that wants to say “ouch”, that hurts. ⠀
The you that wants to express itself, fully. ⠀
The you that wants to cry, scream and shout. ⠀
The you that wants to rest, heal and rewire. ⠀
The you that wants to heal. ⠀
⠀
There is nothing admirable about a thick skin. ⠀
⠀
Thick skins normalise trauma; thick skins pit boys and girls against each other; thick skins breed resentment; thick skins negate threshold and thick skins encourage abuse. ⠀
⠀
Who wants a thick skin? ⠀
⠀
What we’re truly looking for is resilience. Resilience is the acknowledgement that the process can only be maximised when propelled by persistence and consistency in pursuit of a single goal. ⠀
⠀
Talent is the cause. Resilience is the effect. ⠀
⠀
Pursuing a thick skin is like holding your breath. We all know where that can lead. We all need to breathe.⠀
⠀
Thick skin is cancelled!
